Avenue Q
Winning 3 Tony awards in 2003 “Avenue Q” is a hilarious and irreverent musical that cleverly parodies the beloved children’s television show, Sesame Street. Set on the fictional Avenue Q in New York City, the musical introduces a cast of characters who are both the human and puppet residents of the neighbourhood. Through witty humour and catchy songs, “Avenue Q” tackles adult themes such as unemployment, relationships, and the search for purpose, all while paying homage to the format and style of Sesame Street.
As the residents of Avenue Q navigate the challenges of post-college life, they encounter humorous and relatable situations, often mirroring those found in the classic children’s program. From Princeton, the recent college graduate searching for his purpose, to Kate Monster, the optimistic teaching assistant with big dreams, and Trekkie Monster, the internet-obsessed recluse, each character brings their own unique perspective to the neighbourhood. With uproarious musical numbers like “It Sucks to be Me”, “The Internet is for Porn” and Everyone’s a Little Bit Racist,” “Avenue Q” delivers a side-splitting and heartwarming spoof of Sesame Street that is sure to delight audiences of all ages (but maybe leave the little ones at home).
Please Note – Despite featuring puppets, Avenue Q features full puppet nudity, offensive language and deals with a variety of Adult Topics.
